Micro-funding for our community
After being inspired following the launch of the Detroit Soup project in 2010 and UK cities in their footsteps. On 3 October 2015 two friends of 18 years from Manchester decided to replicate the project and previous successes and launch Manchester Soup in Manchester to support local community projects and benefit the people and city of Manchester. There are over 20,000 community projects of varying sizes and interest that help support and positively interact with many of the 2.6 million population of Greater Manchester. Manchester Soup aims to support small projects get off the ground or support longstanding projects who need a vital cash injection from the people of Manchester and beyond. We look to differentiate ourselves through harnessing social media and engagng our combined network of individuals and businesses.
The Concept is Simple
Come along to enjoy a bowl of soup and a drink for a minimum cost e.g. £5 and receive a vote.
During the evening a number of local people/groups get their chance to present their ideas – what they’ve been doing, why they need the money, where they see the project in 6 months time and the value of the on door contribution. Local groups don’t require charity status, just simply people who feel their idea makes a bit of difference to an element of their community. The votes are placed, the winner announced and they take the money from the door takings.
